TRANSFORMING CULTURES

The consumer cultural paradigm has spread around the globe and encourages people to define their happiness and success through how much they consume. But on a finite planet, this system is maladaptive and threatens to cause significant disruptions to the planet and subsequently to human societies.

STORY OF STUFF

This short film, narrated by Annie Leonard, takes the viewer through the process in which all of our materials are manufactured and then inevitably disposed of in our landfills. Ms. Leonard describes the process in which raw resources are removed from the planet in exponential amounts. Leonard goes on to explain a governmental bureaucracy nesting behind the manufacturing and production. Finally, she discusses how the most important and influential part of the process, consumerism, leads to the eventual disposal of products to our already overfull landfills.
